“My childhood has always retained its mystery and magic, but also its drama.” So stated the visual artist Louise Bourgeois. The tension between innocence and sexuality that illustrates Bourgeois’ work was a distant jumping off point for Maison fragile, a collaborative production by Abke Haring, Bart Meuleman and Senjan Jansen in 2004.
The fact that the relationship between the young Louise (played by Haring) and her father was tormented is made apparent only by turns. “The production insinuates, suggests, and provides a few flashes of light about what’s actually going on.” Through subtle teamwork between Senjan Jansen’s sound effect, acting by Abke Haring, and the input from director Bart Meuleman, "a painful re-exploration of the past takes place, a sort of journey through the inferno where only the sparks are visible. And they glow.” (Wouter Hillaert in De Morgen). Maison fragile is a milestone in the work of van Haring, Meuleman and Jansen.
