Toneelhuis is staying in the Bourla for one more season

Bye Bye Bourla festival renamed Stand Bye Bourla

It recently became clear that the preparatory study phase of the work on the Bourla is going to require extra time and effort. As a result, the necessary restoration and renovation work will not be starting in the upcoming cultural season. This unexpectedly gives Toneelhuis the opportunity to play in the Bourla for one more season, which also allows the public to enjoy one more season of theater in this iconic building.

We bring you this news on the eve of the ambitious Bye Bye Bourla festival, which Toneelhuis originally planned as a farewell to the building. Now the festival, a two-month-long celebration of the grandeur and history of the Bourla, will not only be a farewell but also a preview of an additional season of theatre magic in this special place.

The festival has accordingly been renamed Stand Bye Bourla. The programme planned for the festival remains unchanged and forms the start of a promising new season, which will be announced in mid-May.

Artistic Directors of Toneelhuis: "We were ready to move on with our story and welcome our audiences to the remodeled Kambala, but it would be a shame to leave the Bourla empty for a year. The Bourla remains an iconic venue with great audience appeal, so we look forward to playing there for one more season. The renovation is still highly necessary, of course, and meanwhile we are continuing unabated with our plans to develop the Kambala as a second Toneelhuis location.”

Stay up-to-date with the extra programme and festivities through the Toneelhuis channels. And above all: come by, enjoy, and join us in making the Bourla shine brightly for one more year!
