Season 2024-2025

What a plot twist. Bye Bye Bourla unexpectedly became Stand Bye Bourla; the restoration and renovation works on the Bourla will be postponed for a year. We are therefore delighted to welcome you to our beloved theatre in season 2025-2026 as yet, with a host of performances and artists. New work and revivals by our regular artists, by guest artists, by Antwerp colleagues and the other city theatres. Lectures and debates, Aan Tafel discussions, workshops, introductions, guided tours, music, parties, an exhibition on the rich history of the Bourla and a brand new festival.

We keep the fire burning.

Everyone welcome!

‘Theatre is needed today more than ever. Because it brings people together. Because it offers different perspectives. Because it makes room for empathy, imagination, discussion ánd community.’ - the Toneelhuis Artists

Chapters of Celebration

Toneelhuis / Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe / Wouter Deltour / Muziektheater Transparant

An energetic, full evening’s dance marathon propelled by baroque ensemble B’Rock, with La Folia as musical leitmotif. Seven choreographers and seven dancers construct a museum of revelry, a celebration of the partying body throughout the ages.

Symphony for one hundred citizens and a traffic light

Voor het pensioen Theatre 15 January 2026 until 31 January 2026

Voor het pensioen

Toneelhuis / Olympique Dramatique

Thomas Bernhard’s play (English title: The Eve of Retirement: a Comedy of the German Soul) is a black and vicious comedy about a society that remains haunted by its far-right past. A birthday party plagued by guilt, revenge, denial and moral decline. Disturbingly relevant to our times.

a rite of spring Theatre 11 March 2026 until 15 March 2026

a rite of spring

Toneelhuis / Opera Ballet Vlaanderen / Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe

Set to new, rousing music by Lander Gyselinck, Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe presents portraits of three performers. This show is both a tribute to the ultra-classic Le Sacre du printemps and a radical temporary account of women’s sacrifices.

ALL TOGETHER NOW! Theatre 26 March 2026 until 27 March 2026

ALL TOGETHER NOW!

Toneelhuis / House Crying Yellow Tears / Suze Milius

ALL TOGETHER NOW! shows the inevitability of personal decisions and how violent a breakup can be. The connection between individual hurt and mutual violence is painfully revealed in a series of deeply human scenes.

Give up, Old Ghosts! Theatre 22 April 2026 until 25 April 2026

Give up, Old Ghosts!

Toneelhuis / Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe

A journey behind the curtains of memory, with Mozart’s unfinished Requiem as central point of reference. An encounter between performers from different generations and backgrounds. A memory palace with the atmosphere of a spiritual séance.

Reprises

Gilles! Theatre 6 May 2026 until 9 May 2026

Gilles!

Jan Decleir

Thirty-seven years after the premiere of the monologue Hugo Claus wrote especially for him, Jan Decleir once again is taking on the role of Gilles de Rais. A gripping text for all times about war, love and jealousy, loss, depravity, faith and horror.

[meeuw] Theatre 12 May 2026 until 14 May 2026

[meeuw]

Toneelhuis / Olympique Dramatique / theater arsenaal

Love and longing as devastating driving force during a family reunion. Chekhov’s De Meeuw (The Seagull) is a wonderful, tender play about young people with new ideas and an older generation that feels threatened by this. For the first time, a repertory play has been entirely translated into and performed in Flemish Sign Language, presented by a mixed cast of deaf actors and actors with normal hearing.

Ne Mobliez Mie Theatre 19 May 2026 until 22 May 2026

Ne Mobliez Mie

Toneelhuis / FC Bergman

At the end of the 19th century, Marchioness Visconti converted Gaasbeek Castle into a neo-renaissance fairy tale castle, where she posed for photographs dressed as a medieval boy. These photographs are the inspiration for a meditation on alternative identities. A cycle of film vignettes, with an interplay of film and theatre.
