“In Sirene (Siren) Bart Meuleman has Fien Maris, an almost consummate prostitute, writhe over the stage providing us with a poetically and literarily exquisite and visually bewitching excursion into a brothel. (…) ‘Fien Maris seems to come in the most sensual, photogenic and tender way ever’, you think as you look at the subtly writhing Maris on the bare stage lit with granular pastel lighting. (…) A long way behind Maris sits Mattijs Vanderleen surrounded by his drum set. Throughout the monologue he sends subtle, rustling and very occasionally thunderous sounds into the space, providing Maris' love dance with the ideal dark, brittle soundscape (composed by Senjan Jansen). (…) Sirene turns out to be a sensual lament about the longing for everything that makes a person happy and suddenly you see Maris as the metaphor for that bottomless, unfulfilled desire. (…) Sirene gradually becomes a sensual, pastel-coloured portrait of the human being searching in vain for warmth, salvation and a home. In Sirene coming is simply a substitute for coming home.” – Els Van Steenberghe in Knack, 13.01.2015
“Meuleman’s Sirene intrigues us and leads us into a different reality. The often poetic words are beautifully interwoven.” - Eline Van de Voorde op Cobra.be, 11.01.2015
