Seefhoek Series is an art project by Thomas Verstraeten, who also lives in the Seefhoek. The project has six parts, each of which examines a different aspect of the neighbourhood.
Seefhoek Series is like a relay race in which one everyday situation leads to the next. It is an attempt to capture the soul of this area. Together with local residents, Thomas searches for the beauty, resilience and poetry of the neighbourhood. A production by Toneelhuis, in coproduction with DE SINGEL and Het Oude Badhuis.
We’re looking for people who want to participate!
Walk, bike or drive in our live DJ set
24/09: Sonic Landscape
Two hundred local residents walk, bike or drive by car through the Seefhoek along a designated route. Everyone carries a small portable loudspeaker that plays their favourite song. The Seefhoek magically turns into a live DJ set!
Perform in the Bourla as a figurant
27/9 - 30/9: Monologue on the Astridplein
On the stage of the Bourla Theatre, the Astridplein is replicated in perspective. A preacher preaches salvation. He performs a monologue, a mixture of a dramatic text and street theatre. Meanwhile, everyday life on the square goes on.
Be part of a performance with rubbish
30/09: Myth of Sisyphus
Two hundred local residents walk across the Stuivenbergplein in a single line. Out of rubbish assorted according to colour, they make a large abstract drawing. After that the group puts on the fluorescent attire of the sanitation department and picks up the rubbish again. It almost becomes a dance, the throwing and picking up of the rubbish, like the ebb and flow of the tide.
