Lisa Verbelen is an actress, theatre maker, performance writer and a distinctive voice within contemporary theatre, performance and music theatre practice. She studied at the Maastricht Theatre Academy (Performance) and completed the T.I.M.E. master’s programme in music theatre at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague.
She is co-founder, creator and performer of the collective BOG., which has been internationally renowned since 2013 for its linguistic and musical theatre productions such as TAL., BAS. and BOG.2., productions which, starting from philosophical questions about human existence, language and society, have developed a theatrical form in which text structures, rhythm and music form a dramaturgical whole.
In addition, Lisa has created various solo performances within BOG. in which she further develops her research into language and music. Her first solo piece, ONE. (2015) is a theatre performance in which a single performer forms a polyphonic choir. The performance was nominated for the BNG New Theatre Makers Award and was staged at venues including the Fadjr International Theatre Festival in Tehran, where it received the award for Best Vocal Design.
In the solo piece ALL. (2019), Lisa builds a musical composition live using her voice, percussion, guitars and a loop station, whilst reflecting on the complexity of the concept of ‘everything’. The performance was selected for Het TheaterFestival 2020 as one of the most notable productions of the season.
Verbelen met Hendrik Lasure during the production TALK SHOW (2018) by theatre maker Suze Milius, in which Lasure composed the music and Verbelen was involved as a performer. This encounter led to the joint project TWO. is not a solo in 2022: an album and theatrical concert in which text and instrumental music develop as two equal voices. In 2023, the production was selected for Het TheaterFestival, where it was included in the selection of the season’s most notable productions. BABY builds on this collaboration.
Hendrik Lasure is a composer, multi-instrumentalist and performer. Following his studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Brussels, he embarked on a professional artistic career in which composition, improvisation and dramaturgy influence one another. Musical material often emerges through improvisation on the piano or with the voice, after which it is developed during rehearsals into a score or a performative structure.
Lasure works both independently and in collaboration with other theatre makers, choreographers and performers. He is actively involved in projects such as SCHNTZL, Warm Bad and Het Wiel.
In SCHNTZL, a duo with drummer Casper Van De Velde, composition and improvisation come together in a hybrid form of experimental jazz, electronica and performance. SCHNTZL has released several albums, including Fata Morgana, and has performed at venues and festivals both at home and abroad.
With the ensemble Warm Bad, Hendrik Lasure produced, among other works, the album Garden Head (2018), for which he received the Sabam Jazz Award for Best Jazz Composer. In this project, he works with larger ensembles in which jazz, contemporary composition and improvisation come together in a layered and playful soundscape.
Lasure’s solo project Het Wiel marks a shift towards a more text-driven practice. This Dutch-language song cycle emerged from an exploration of spoken language and musicality.
In 2025, Lasure composed the music for the production ALL TOGETHER NOW!.
