What happens in the middle of the night, deep in the forest? In the middle of the night everything is different; it is dark and silent with the occasional strange noise… You might start to worry about how for example you’ll find your way to the beginning of the night. Or you might find yourself caught up in an exciting adventure… Vole and elephant, bear and carp, grasshopper and owl, squirrel and ant, hedgehog and squirrel, but also termite, firefly and cabbageworm: something happens to them all ‘in the middle of the night’.
In Middenin de nacht (In the middle of the night) all the animals in the Toneelhuis forest give free rein to their imagination and creativity, just as they did several seasons ago in De geschiedenis van de wereld in 10 ½ hoofdstuk, based on Julian Barnes’ novel History of the World in 10½ Chapters.
An extra performance of Middenin de nacht scheduled for midnight on January 14th 2012 will be Toneelhuis’ contribution to the 24 hours on stage event, a project mounted collectively by Antwerp’s houses of culture, theatres and theatre companies in a bid to put Antwerp on the map as Flanders’ ‘Stage City’.
