word also stands for a feeling of insecurity in a dark and unpredictable space)
A room turns into a room turns into a room turns into a black hole, an overripe piece of fruit.
Instantly become enchanted by this cabinet of curiosities, a baroque miniature with faded colours, little hatches that open and close, light, darkness and a whole lot of strings.
_ _ _
A short miniature road show for small audiences that can pop up anywhere at any moment – living rooms, parochial halls, festival cafes, dark woods. Its small scale is deliberate, an attentive gesture inspired by an awareness of the ecological catastrophe, a concern that has been present in Verdonck’s work for some time.
And just like with a Rothko, I wonder how it’s possible for a dark area to radiate such
light. It’s amazing how something small can be so powerful.
"A miniature 'cabinet of curiosities' made of wood with panels and drawers operated by strings. Using these objects, Verdonck shows us a series of basic theatre coordinates – entrances and exits, light and dark, big and small, near and far, colour and colourless, stage left and stage right – evoking a meditative state that draws you into a moving, abstract work of art loaded with meanings and associations."
"With its sliding panels, the construction is reminiscent of a life-sized peep-show whose nature keeps changing due to the effects of light and an exciting soundscape."
