In Zielzoekers - de installatie, Mokhallad Rasem has created an ingenious montage of the interviews he made with refugees who were received by a local community in Northern France, among other things in consultation with La chambre d'eau, an arts workplace in Favril (FR). This installation in the form of a box with four screens is part of the Cabaret de Curiosités 2018 festival in Valenciennes. The installation is an offshoot of the production Zielzoekers (2016), which Mokhallad made earlier with refugees in Menen.

The sound is not in sync with the images, and seeing the versions from an angle makes them start parasitizing each other. This installation invites us to never again forget where we are standing and gently draws our attention to what lies behind the scenes – the geopolitical context, the injustice, the pain – everything that is left unsaid and yet is clear to those who are willing to see it.
