Marc, Serge and Yvan are inseparable friends – at least, that is, until Serge buys a painting with an exorbitant price-tag. The canvas is all white, apart from the odd fine, slightly less white line. The three shades of white cause the three friends to turn on each other.
Even before there was any mention of Olympique Dramatique, in 1998 Tom Dewispelaere, Stijn Van Opstal and Geert Van Rampelberg - drama students at what was then the Studio Herman Teirlinck - produced Drie kleuren wit as their final project. The play is based on Yasmina Reza’s Art. Once again the Olympiquers are stepping into the shoes of Marc, Serge and Yvan, three close friends, inseparable until today. Infatuated by the modernist Antrios, Serge buys one of his paintings for the staggering sum of 30,000 euros. The canvas is all white, apart from the odd fine, slightly less white line. The three shades of white cause the three friends to turn on each other.
Written in 1994 by the Franco-Iranian playwright Yasmina Reza, the play Art is about art and above all about three men at the breaking point of their relationship. Though extremely funny, it is far from innocent.
