In honour of his departure from the Bourla, Gorges Ocloo is reviving his very first show, Scarlet Anansi Ocloo, with which he entered the Flemish theatre sector like a whirlwind and immediately installed his own signature. The starting point was the story of Medea.
For Ocloo, Medea is the mother of all genocides. After all, Medea kills her own children – she kills something she has brought forth herself.
For this show, Gorges Ocloo wrote his own script, taking inspiration from Ghanaian Anansi stories, Medea Material by Heiner Müller, The Famished Road by Ben Okri, Duizend Heuvels by Koen Peeters, the documentaries Aileen Wuornos: The Selling of a Serial Killer and The Act of Killing by Joshua Oppenheimer, among others, and not least from
contemporary violence, politics and religion.
Ocloo's Medea is played by a grande dame of the Flemish film world, who with Scarlet Anansi Ocloo is back on stage for the first time in many years: Hilde Van Mieghem.
