Suze Milius

Theatre maker Suze Milius (b. 1986) studied at Acting International in Paris and earned a degree in Directing at the Toneelacademie Maastricht Institute of Performing Arts (2012). She works as a director with various companies in Belgium and the Netherlands, including Het Paleis, Het Zuidelijk Toneel, De Nwe Tijd, BOG., Het Nieuwstedelijk, Orkater and Wunderbaum. Recently she collaborated with composer Annelinde Bruijs on Solitude Hotel (2023) and the philosophical musical Ground Floor (2023).

Milius's work is typified by a visual and physical theatrical idiom that focuses on interpersonal behaviour in all of its awkwardness and discomfort. With her love of absurd humour, combined with her capacity for abstract thought and stylized aesthetics, Suze creates colourful universes. As a spectator, you almost can’t help questioning your own viewing habits.

The essence of her work is about zooming out and reflecting on all of the lives you could have had as a person. For Milius, this has a hopeful connotation: “For me, melancholy is bliss, precisely because it makes me feel, makes me reflect.”

With the support of Toneelhuis et al, Suze Milius is creating All Together Now (working title), which premieres at Toneelhuis (Kambala) on 26 March 2026 and after that goes on tour.
